Mick Thomsons facial expressions REALLY tells a story about how hyped he is about his new signature series :D
GengarTV Underrated comment
GengarTV we know 😂
Even when he’s giddy about his guitar he still looks evil with that mask lol
I missed it
Jesse Nunes 6:09 .there’s a time stamp for you
Mick performing with Slipknot: 😡
Mick during interview about his toys: 😺
I like it that Mick looks like he can break you with his pinky finger but is actually super nice.
Peaceful Giant
I actually met him in a gas station in Des Moines and he was actually really fucking cool and Even gave me a pick lol literally the best FUCKING day of my life
Emerald Shine just don't piss him off 😂
The BFG
@@jim7300 Now, I need to play WoW with this guy.
Now there's a guy very obviously excited about his guitars.
never really been a fan of slipknot but they have some pretty fucking passionate people and i think that was matters most
Yeah, you can really see it in his face!
Not only that but he clearly understands the hardware and designs, some of the stuff he had them incorporate into this model are subtle but amazing.
@@competetodefeat4610 it seems like a Floyd without any of the shitty parts😂. Seems like it’ll be easy to restring
"Looks like a Floyd, it is a Floyd but it's not a Floyd" great sales pitch by Mick
MrGH3Man4 a 10/10 description
Is not Floyd rose
No whammy bar😭
It's a unique way to anchor the strings to the body. The point is for the superior energy transfer to the body which translates to better resonance and note sustain.
Floyd Pose
I'm not a big fan of Slipknot but i love the fact that this enormous man sounds so enthusiastic about his guitars that he's almost turned into a little kid about them.
Makes me want to talk guitars with him too.
Mooferoo Jim Root’s the same way.
I've met him and he is that type of person that you can talk with for hours
I super fucking love the way Mick talks in this video. Chill, laidback, excited, the way he talks about his guitar, damn
Mick has always been a huge Jackson fan, even when he was with BC Rich and Ibanez, you can really tell he's genuinely stoked about these new models
Ian Hakim get yourself a partner who talks about you to other people like Mick Thomson talks about his sig
I really like how Mick doesn't give a single fuck about saying that he was with Ibanez before. Some guys go DISTANCES to not mention the last companies they worked with and that's a little bit lame.
The first video he did about his Jacksons he only said things like "past companies I've worked with". Maybe he had to wait a little bit before being able to.
I saw an interview with Tosin Abasi at NAMM '18 and he did everything he coud to not say "Ibanez". Instead he'd say things like "my previous guitar company". Just fuckin say 'Ibanez'! Everyone knows he was with Ibanez for years before.
My name is Lucas Salley get out of here
the reason why many people tip toe around naming names is that they're bound by non-disclosure agreements. as you may know, in the USA, they have a fetish for suing each other over small things. even parents and children sue each other! people can't speak their mind without stepping on some legal trap
@@the80386 yeah my thoughts exactly
The funniest thing about Slipknot is how older folk think they're all assholes, but they're just normal nice blokes. Not my favourite band, but great musicians.
LOL, I think it's funny too. Same could be said about other bands as well, like Cannibal Corpse and Slayer. Their music may be violent but they seem like nice guys.
I didn’t get to meet Mick but I have met various other members and they’re awesome such as Root, Taylor, Sid etc... Incredible people
Jim Root looks like a college professor, and speaks with incredible intellect...
It’s a guarantee you will find selfless and nice guys in ANY Metal band over ANY hip hop artist.
Not all are good lol. But I get what you're saying. Its the feeling of family, of acceptance, of being able to express how you feel and knowing theres a million people just the same.
It still blows my mind how nice all the Slipknot guys are in interviews. Especially Mick and Jim. They’re more than decent guys they’re downright nice and actually seem like they want to talk. Doesn’t seem forced or fake.
Not to mention that they give the "little guy" a chance as well, they do interviews with smaller companies and even just independent interviewers they're really nice people, and I think it's because they blow off so much steam on stage that they have 0% anger elsewhere
He's so big and "fearsome" yet such a cool guy
indeed, i saw them live in 2012, mick stands out like a titan on the stage.
Yeah, a fat out of shape fearsome mask wearer adult man.
Aldo the Apache but u wouldn’t say that to his face would u
Mick seems such a cool guy, I know he stated he doesnt like the social stuff too much. But his personality when doing interviews is great. He is just a musician and doesnt want all the stuff around it.
I remember growing up in Des Moines and going to see free slipknot shows after some headliner in safari club, still crazy to see how far they've came. Also, before their first ozzfest he installed the emg that are in my ibanez, burnt the finish three times, and to this day he remembers it when asked about a glitter blue ibanez circa 1998 from he old guitar shop. Glad I still have it. Before they left to record self titled and after he installed them, he played a riff like I've never heard to test it and make sure it worked, like a year later I realized it was wait and bleed. All the talk about him being a super cool dude...it's true. He is.
Dude, that's a really cool story! And it fits to the Mick I got to know. Genuinely chilled and friendly guy and a total guitar nerd. I mean, can you be any cooler than that? :-) //cheers, Kris
Holy shit that’s an incredible story
Once in a life time story right there amazing Mick is a really cool dude met all the guys from slipknot during ozzfest had a few beers an bullshitted with them awesome dudes again
Yep, still got it.....20+ years later
I love how he made sure even the entry level Jackson isn't slacking, unlike Ibanez who let his entry levels sorta slack..
noskilz04 i have a $375 ibanez and i love it more then my gibson les paul
I am blown away by Jackson king v shreds cuts grinds!!! set for Drop B and A
I owned the top mick Thompson signature ibanez in 2008
The red one with the emgs and seven inlay
It was meant to retail for $2700 i got it for $1300 brand new without the case as a run out model
Wasnt a bad guitar but it was korean made and certainly not worth the RRP
Can only imagine what the entry level was like Indonesian made and a 3rd of the price
Both levels actually. I absolutely hated the rosewood fretboard I got on my blood red Ibanez mtm1. This sick deep blood looking red guitar with a matching case, killer black hardware and black binding, neck through, and then it was just ruined by this ugly streaky lightbrown rosewood that Ibanez in Indonesia slapped on the guitar. I had it for a year or two and finally just couldn't stand the sight of it so I sold it on reverb. His personal models had ebony boards, not sure why the production ones couldn't. It really needed the black fretboard. Especially since all the iron label Ibanez's are coming out with the ebony fretboard.
I had an entry level Ibanez Mick Thomson signature. It was a terrible experience. The actual guitar was awesome and Mick's specs felt super nice but Ibanez some how fudged up the bridge on mine. Basically the saddles kept wearing out excessively fast and I would get burrs in the saddles that would snap new strings within 3 days. I tried everything to fix it but nothing worked so I ended up selling it and moving on to LTD. I love Mick and his guitar are awesome but I completely agree that Ibanez didn't give a shit about the cheaper model of his signature guitar. I still can't figure out why I was like the only person that had the issues I did. I replaced the saddles with new ones several times and my set up really wasn't much different than Mick's in terms of string gauges and tunings and such. Needless to say, the whole experience definitely turned me off of using Ibanez guitar in the future.
6:27 my heart just skipped a beat
Meredoa I also thought Mick was gonna kill him that part was so cringey as well 😨😨
Meredoa I think all guitar freaks lost atleast 10 years for that one.
Mick at 6:05 lol.
I always enjoy hearing Mick talk about his guitars cause he genuinely seems to care about his ‘signature’ instruments....
...when he delves into all the details that went into making his models, how they differ from other stuff that’s out there, etc...
- Unlike MANY other musicians who’ll simply put out hunks of $&@ for the sake of having something w their name on it...
...in order to make a quick buck off fans that are willing to pay good $$$ to own what their “heroes” perform (or record) with.
* Mick’s old “B.C. Rich” guitars were AWESOME too !!
TinManSilverHeart ikr. Have you seen other artists do interviews and they don't even know what is in their guitars or the spec
ion 53 Yeah...I’ve seen it a couple of times.
The worst, even thought I’m a huge KISS fan, was probably Paul Stanley when he’d jump from company to company (like ‘Washburn’ to ‘Silvertone’)....
...and simply say, “I know what goes into making a great instrument”....
...cause he knew that fans would buy his guitars on just his name alone...
...w a lame statement like that.
I agree! I love how passionate he sounds, like when he goes "there is no hole knocked through the guitar" at 2:05. Like you said about other artists, they always just run through the specs and don't even seem interested
He’s so savvy. Intelligent and real.
Patrick Carroll precisely
there's an interview out there I watched some years ago. he goes into detail about life before slipknot and he actually repaired and set up guitars for a living in Iowa. it's really cool having that kind of background and knowing your shit so that you can 100% stand behind your product.
He’s also survived a knife to the head
@@johnkren2636 Yeah at a place called Ye Olde Guitar Shoppe.
The interviewer: "Ooh!" "Ah!" "No way!" "Wow!" = Pretending to be into the guitar as much as Mick to seem impressed.
Nah. It's so Mick didn't stab him.
Or beat him to death with the black one. Graphite reinforced... 3 piece laminate.. guitar no break - skull break
I mean, what else can he say? Mick is talking, there’s really no room for him to speak.
What a nice tall man
FabruT He makes the interviewer look like a midget lol
Jim Root is 6'6" and Mick is 6'4". But Mick is built like a fucking tree.
FabruT jim is even taller
Doc Roid Geez, im as tall as Mick and i’m 14
Mick is like 6"5
MR. SEVEN 😊😊😊
Fucking love Number 7.
they look like harry potter sitting next to hagrid, lol
😂😂😂😂

😂
@PotatZo you're wrong Mick is 6'4. I met the band,before Jim root is 6'6
@@itsraid_bitchez8084 wow a whole inch wrong
Mick is such a cool dude!
His humbleness while talking about Ibanez and even BC Rich is awesome!
I've never seen someone talking about past endorsement companies like that.
Respect for this dude!
Mick looks fucking massive next to that dude.
About the guitar, it's basically another superstrat in the market, which isn't bad at all because they look pretty good, but I'm still wondering, why the hell doesn't Mick use Evertune instead of a double locking fixed bridge.
i think its because he is a huge advocate for resonance and letting the body wood vibrate and effect your tone. So if he got an evertune it would be gutting a huge chunk of the guitar like you have to with a floyd tremolo. Im more curious why he hasn't switched to fishman yet. seems like something right up his alley.
why switch to fishman if you already have the pick ups you want?
Infamous_MrSeven what if Fishman can offer him something better?
Juan José Fonseca Godoy that because Mick is fucking massive
Not to be a hipster, but I hear way too much about Fishmans, I feel like they can't be that great. I don't know anyone who plays that uses Fishmans, so they can't be that good XD
Awesome interview. Mick seems like a cool guy.
he is a cool guy... he is my inspiration to play guitar
Dude all the Slipknot guys are super cool. They're all pretty chill for the most part. But Mick is just a delight to be around tbh.
AkiraSpectrum I hung out with him a few yrs back.. Cool as fuck..big gear head so it was easy to keep conversation goin
Very cool!
Cool guy.... shit player
I was fortunate enough to go the NAMM show for the first time ever this year and I tried his guitar at the Jackson showroom. And to make things better, I got to meet Mick when he was signing autographs, awesome dude.
How did the neck feel?
Colin W I liked it it was nice and slim and plus the fingerboard radius made it comfortable to play. The only issue I had with it was that the neck was a gloss finish which I don’t particularly favor. I tend to lean more towards a satin finish or a natural oil finish for the back of Guitar necks.
I like both but did it seem sticky or was it super smooth?
Colin W I thought the finish was sticky but the neck felt very smooth and streamlined, you could definitely move up and down fast. But you definitely have to be willing to move your thumb off the neck to move up or down the fretboard.
Oh, ok. One last question... Did you try the Pro series model as well?
How did it compare because the specs from the USA model are barely different.
Very articulate knows what he's talking about when it comes to guitars
Well he was a guitar teacher
Who else can't wait for slipknot to return
Jay Dee fuck you
Jay Dee, you have nothing to contribute to this, so stay the F#CK OUT!
They're in pre pro rn
Jay Dee Just because you don't like them doesn't make them bad. Not being a musician doesn't make your taste bad. "I'm in a big signed band but I won't say who" is pretty laughable. Did you know I'm a pro football player? I'm not gonna say what team...
Doubt a successful musician in a "big signed band" would be running his mouth in the RUclips comment section. Now go back to your line 6 spider and practice your power chords.
He sounds really nice
Mick was great in this interview. It felt like I was sitting there with him.
Mick Thomson looks like a serial killer but chats like a QVC sales representative! Love how passionate he is about guitars and the gear he uses. I could listen to him pitch his signature models to you all day 🤘🏻
I love how Mick is meant to be the tough guy in Slipknot but he's just the most chill and friendly guy haha
I always get super smiley when I see him talking about his guitars and also, when I see his wife being right there with him and how supportive and loving they are with each other. Just makes me happy for some reason.
5:56 “Absofuckinlutely I do” 😂
You know when your with mick no ones gonna mess with you, but seriously he sounds like a genuine guy
Mick is "The Mountain" of metal
I have the import, went through hell and back to get it in store and not order it, and it’s very very impressive for the price. It plays just as well if not better as my gibson explorer. Like when I plugged it in and hit the first solo....... it was BLOWN AWAY, neck is so smooth it’s like butter. I was over shooting the notes at first because of how damn smooth it is ! Like wow ! I called 40 stores in two days looking for one and only wanted the white ! And I had to drive out of state to pick it up! And it was WELL WORTH THE TERRIBLE TRAFFIC FILLED RIDE!
He is very calm and comprehensive! So focused and well rounded on guitar! This guy is a very skilled musician but also a passionate performer!!
Ich habe zwar keine Ahnung über was er da redet, da ich kein Gitarrist Bin, aber es so GEIL ihm einfach zu zuhören. Ein verdammt guter Gitarrist in einer geilen Band. Danke Thomann für das Interview.
6.24 lmao. Gets handed micks guitar then bangs it on the table. This guy gonna be the next sacrifice lol
that thing is a tank, got 2 Jacksons...they are undestructible....
Not really his fault. Mick let it go before he grabbed it properly. Plus, a drop like thatwouldnt have done shit.
7:13 Mick bangs his own guitar on a table. Gonna have to sacrifice himself I guess.
The day he switched from Ibanez to Jackson it made my whole year. I got the the arctic white Pro series and i love it.
I know same. It’s not that I hated his Ibanez guitars, just weren’t my thing, I’ll never forget the first time I saw his Jackson’s and just thought how much better they were in my opinion. Jut more badass and streamlined.
Saving up as I type this.
We all are.
Maybe so, but at least you guys aren't stuck struggling against a First Act, lol (just thanking God it's not a Discovery model)
Same! I have an order for the Chris Broderick HT6 and tried to get me dealer to switch the order to this one but they said it's gone through and can't stop it.
Mick legit handles that guitar like it’s a feather. He makes it look so light
Holy shit! They brought the big guns out!
It's so awesome seeing musicians talk about their instruments, the brands they chose and why they went that route. You could just see the passion
His BC Rich guitars were amazing.
John Coniglio lmao not according to him lol but I did have his bc sig and it was nice then I sold it for $200 but everyone else I talked to about bc in general didn't really have nice things to say
Mick is one of the gentlest of giants
You know you're a true metal guitar player when you pointing your guitar pickup with metal sign.
true \m/
Mick put a lot into this signature model on both the US made and import models and Jackson delivered for him. The guy seems like a straight up honest guy.
Aw he’s so exited to show everyone he’s new guitar
I love how mick proudly praise the previous guitar company he had signature with..
Because he's a cool dude. Everyone should be like him. :)
//cheers, Kris
Surprised to see mick openly talking about his relations with past guitar brands
Mick is a fucking giant IMAGINE fighting this dude... Dear God
That Dude is huge...
6'4-6'6 is pretty huge. I have an uncle and few cousins as big and we're German. .
Jim root is tall too. In concert I was like "how fucking short is Corey
Taylor?"
tyler a jim is 6'2-4
Mick is 6'4 and Jim is 6'6 lol
Mick is 6'6 and jim is 6'4.
Ughhhhh what a perfect guitar! What a chill ass dude to do the interview! Mick rocks!
Why are the guitars, Reporter, microphone, room so small?
They are not... Mick is just huge..
//Andy
Reminds me of that episode of spongebob when he said:
“Help! I’m shrinking”
And Jim is even taller
Mick and jim gave me hope when I thought my fingers and hands were too big to properly learn to play. I was just being impatient. And just wanted to shred. Take your time newbies and put in the hours. Doing something you thought you couldn’t feels amazing. I mean, just properly hitting a C chord made me feel amazing.
Mick's Jackson Custom guitars are brutal! They sound amazing. I have played the import and it can hold it's own. My question is, did Jackson or Mick get with Doyle from the Misfits about his customized stationaty hard tail Floyd that he machined himself? Doyle is the first to have a fixed Floyd Rose. He's had it since he built his first guitar.
Jackson is the highest standard in neck action on the planet. Described in two words: compound radius!
i like jackson most of all and those models are just perfect
I’ve had this guitar for over a year. It’s also my only guitar. By far the best Jackson I’ve ever owned.
Interviewer : “Do you still have that guitar?
Mick: “...Absofuckinglutely I do”
Mick’s take on sound is classic; construction, feel, resonance/sustain... I can’t disagree. Damn, I kinda really need that guitar now. Much respect, thanks Mick! \m/
I'm definitely interested in checking one out when they hit stores, just wish the Floyd was a low-profile version. I just checked the US prices and the import (Pro series) is $899! Pretty impressive, I was expecting around $1199-1399. I wonder if these will come from the factory in standard tuning, or drop B like the Ibanez version?
US comes in drop B and pro series comes in standard E
I’ve never seen mick so excited to show his guitars
3:05 It is kinda weird hear that comment and watch that mask at the same time lol
"REALLY HAPPY WITH THAT MOTHER FUCKERS"
I love how excited Mick is talking about his guitars! Like a kid with a new toy!! 🎸🤘🏼💋
Yeah and now the excitement is about ESP!🙄
Great interview! Many thanks to you and mick! I love how he nerds out on his guitar!
I respect that he talks about other brand deals openly, not many musicians are like that
Sitting next to a monster
Gotta love when artists actually know the specs of gear they put their name on. Seems like he could nerd out on gear talk all day!!
6:26
Mick: it's really stiff check it out
interviewer: drops guitar
.
If you watch closely, the table breaks just a little bit.
//Andy
Nothing better than when a musician is so knowledgeable about his craft - really pumps me up to try this out. The gentle giant - What a guy. Kudos to Jackson for building the imported model with so much value. I made the switch over to Jackson a couple years back and have been incredibly pleased.
What a cool guy!
My first electric was a Jackson PS4 Performer, my latest is a JS32 Randy Rhoads made in 2018. Same neck as this. It's a really impressive and well priced guitar. I cannot put it down.
It would be funny when Jim or Mick plays with a Gibson ^^
Mick is the level of enthusiastic guitar nerd that makes me consider buying a Jackson.
Why is Nathan explosion wearing a mask
And why is he hoarse?
I could listen to Mick talk about guitars all day, if he ever retires he should be a spokesman for guitars
2:05 inspired by the Fixed Edge III or Fixed Lo Pro Edge
3:41 no, it's because CITES and rosewood is no longer an option :D
Yes, but manufactures well avoid using rosewood and go for ebony or Richlite
ebony looks great but is brittle and hard to work with if you wanna do a refret, that's the only real downside.
Not really. Mick's bridge is way different.
How so? It's mounted with 2 studs, can be locked down and has finetuners.
Here are some detail shots:
www.fmicassets.com/Damroot/Original/10001/jksn_2914224503_HIGHLIGHT2_BRIDGE.jpg
www.guitar-muse.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/MTM10BR_bridge.jpg
Mick's does have the two standard studs that every Floyd comes with but Mick's has a third one under it that locks in place so it doesn't dip into the cavity. Just when you re string a floyd.
So, like a normal Floyd when you place a block in the cavity to keep floyd level when changing strings. This replaces of add something in there.
Also, it looks as if you can fit either a Allen key or phillips screw driver to make adjustments or unlock it.
Where it can be float Floyd like Eddie van halens top mount.
The only Issue I see with Mick's is when changing strings the Floyd will fall down into the cavity on the typical Floyd you need to use the trem bar.
Looking forward to his video on making adjustments and string changing on this.
Mick impresses the hell out of me in this interview. I don't do the fan boy thing and Slipknot is cool but not my favorite band, but I can tell you I wouldn't mind having a conversation with him. I love his enthusiasm about the guitars
It's crazy how much money jackson spent to pull a lot of guitarists from other brands
well if you are developing your signature models and are with big brands that don't really want to spend 2 years of developing just one artist model, then you leave them for another brand that is willing to put the effort into it. Doesn't have alot to do with money.
its not jackson stealing artists, its ibanez basically making people wanna leave.
how so?
daveshaw18 by not wanting to listen to them for major changes. I have to hand it to you Ibanez and the AZ series. This was truly inspired by a group of players and Ibanez listened to their input. But for older endorsements they didn't really want anything major done.
exactly, Ibanez were restricting their artists too much in last couple months(not allowing evertune bridges, or pickups other than dimarzio or related brands).
Tosin Abasis signature model pretty much was the most extravagant thing that ibanez did recently and he is gone too.
Also the overall quality of the current iron label series by Ibanez seems to be all over the place, its such a shame :/
Lots of stupid decisions have been made like putting nickel frets on the guitars and stupid crap like that.
Mick really is a cool guy, so glad I got to meet him and absolutely love his guitar playing 🤘🤘
When you look like a serial killer but you're just way too excited about your new guitar :D
I love the way Mick presents himself in his interviews. Sold.
when a huge scary guy turns out to be a nice, polite teddy bear :D
Mick was my first guitar hero and almost bought a Warlock back then. He knows his stuff about guitars and owns his own music store in Iowa.
The Big scary Nice Guy, Mr. Seven
Fucking love Mr. Seven.
I'll probably end up buying the import model just to see what Jackson came up with and I'll always support what Mick is selling. Hes a true artist and cares about how his products carry his name
Glad he decided not to have the "hate" or "seven" inlay
That used to annoy the living hell out of me! Although, it was kind of funny how every time you saw him talk about those guitars, he'd almost never mention the inlays.
Now that I'm thinking about it, if Micks "Hate" or "Seven" inlay is enough to do piss some people off, how are people so cool with Synyster Gates' guitar having his band and nickname all over it?
they're not lol the only ppl i've seen with the schecter syn sigs are rich pre-teenage kids that like to dress in all black and wear fingerless gloves,, and syn himself of course. honestly though other than the syn models schecter makes some nice guitars with great parts and features.
Haha, yeah...*Realizes I'm wearing fingerless skeleton gloves*
im pretty sure he couldn't do either since they're probably copy write-ed with ibanez and bc rich
I think the guitars with those inlays were cool, but I can only see him playing them
Never met him but I love this guy
I NEED
GIMME GIMME GIMME
I used to love Jacksons, I used to use one because Buckethead, Dave Mustaine, and Jim Root used to use them way back when, and now Mick has a signature model that I definitely have to check out, the joy
Reverse headstock for the win! Why not just use a Evertune?
Evertune makes bending strings different, which would make playing some Slipknot songs weird. A couple quick examples, Devil In I and Lech both use a full-step bend from the first fret.
300$
Not for OEM
David M, you can make the strings bend just like they would on a normal guitar.
thanks for the comment, wanted to ask the same thing
I love that it just has one volume knob and I like that the pick-up switch and single knob are logically not in the way of your picking hand.. Its a beautifully efficient yet simplistic design. Rock on Mick ! :)
I don't get why he plays 6 strings in drop A not a 7 string
Can someone tell me why
You don't need 7 strings to tune low, the scale is the important thing 👍
He just doesn’t need one, I guess. He owns a custom shop Jackson 7 string, but he keeps it at home.
I have been waiting for this bridge to be made for over 20 years.....Thank you!
New slipknot album?
Gonna have to wait until 2k19
Love how both mick and Jim wanted to allow their mid range imports to have the same quality so more people can nail their sound. This new Jackson especially looks outstanding
Pro wrestler ?
Hes actually the Green Bastard. (from parts unknown)
I know but it just strikes me funny to see him not on stage with a mask on.
Plot twist; He is actually the blue Meanie ... (Or Gillberg)
hell no
Abyss
mick knows what hes talking about i like the simple setup of no push pull split coil shit no tone just full bore the bridge does make sense because it keeps it in tune better
